Explorer Dome Midlands

This year has seen a big development for Explorer Dome with the launch of our Birmingham-based mobile dome. Although we have been around since 1998, this is the first time that we have had a dome that travels from outside of Bristol. Having a base in Birmingham now means we can easily reach schools across the West Midlands, East Midlands, Mid Wales and beyond.

We were very pleased to welcome one of our most experienced presenters back to look after the Birmingham dome. Jim Bell has returned to the Explorer Dome team after a few years away working in higher education schools outreach and is working alongside the fantastic science presenter Jenny Love

We officially launched just in time for National Science and Engineering Week 2017, attracting some media interest with some after school shows for the science club at Colmore Junior School

Since then Jim and our brand new presenter, Jenny Love, have been in schools all over the region bringing our unique brand of lively, engaging hands-on science shows to a whole new audience. Schools have been really enthusiastic about their experience inside the dome, with some fantastic feedback from pupils and teachers alike:

“All of the staff and pupils I spoke to thoroughly enjoyed the shows. I heard children saying it was 'epic' 'amazing' 'exciting'. Thank you so much!”

Class Teacher, Henley-in-Arden Primary School

“We were very impressed with the dome, it gave a great snapshot of learning for us to continue and build on in our classrooms. The children were mesmerised by the stars, sun and moon. the stories really captured children's imaginations.”

Science Coordinator, Our Lady of Perpetual Succor Primary School, Nottingham
